Stay safe this summer in and around the water is the message from Dandenong Market this Sunday 5
December.
As part of Water Safety Week, Life Saving Victoria, Victorian Fisheries Authority, Victoria Police, Fire Rescue
Victoria and Maritime Services Victoria will all be at the Market between 10am and 2pm to talk to the
community about the skills and knowledge needed to make the right decisions about water safety.
Learn how to stay safe while swimming at the beach, swimming pools, rivers and lakes, boating or fishing.
“Victoria’s beautiful waterways should be places where everyone feels at ease and can take pleasure from
their surroundings, whatever their age, whatever their activity level,” Ms Jennifer Hibbs, Dandenong
Market’s General Manager said.
Attending Water Safety Week is more important than ever. “Swimming isn’t just a critical lifesaving skill; it’s a skill that opens up a lifetime of fun and adventure in and on the water and, throughout 2020 and 2021 due to the nature of the pandemic, cohorts of young people have missed out on the opportunity to swim, leaving a dramatic gap in school swimming and water safety education.”
There will be free activities for kids and lots of educational initiatives for anyone of any age who wants to
enjoy a lifetime of fun in the water.
