COVID-19 update

On Monday 11 May 2020, Premier Daniel Andrews addressed Victorians with updates to current COVID-19 restrictions.

Dandenong Market will remain open under advice given by the Victorian and Australian Governments as we are classified an “essential service” which provides fresh produce to the wider community.

This includes fruit and vegetables, meat, fish and deli items, pantry goods and all of our bakeries.

Our ready-to-eat traders will continue to sell take-away only.

Restaurants and cafes including the Dandenong Market Tavern and Café Marketto will remain closed.

The Market’s playground will remain closed.

All of our non-food stalls will remain closed.

This includes all small businesses in the Bazaar, as well as our plant and flower sellers, key cutters, pet supplies seller, tools and garden suppliers and our popular auction.

These directions will remain in place until instructed otherwise by the Victorian Government and our social channels and website will be updated accordingly.

To help customers comply with the Federal Government’s social distancing laws –

  • We have reduced customer numbers at the Market to assist with social distancing and to help ensure that our customers can enjoy a safe shopping experience. This may mean that customers will be asked to safely queue indoors in Market Square before entering our produce halls. During busy periods we will have a ”five out, five in” system.
  • Crosses have been placed throughout the Market on the floor so customers understand what the social distancing measurements look like, depending on where they are shopping in the Market.
  • Increased security patrols to encourage customers to comply.

To remind customers about social distancing, we have 10 minute overhead announcements reminding customers to maintain 1.5-metre distance in our Fruit & Vegetable Hall and Market Square and for 4 square metres for all other areas of the Market. Similar messages can also be seen on all digital screens. We also have more than 50 posters around the Market asking customers to respect the practices in place.

Some traders prefer contactless payment (pay wave) over cash and other payment options.

Many of our traders use ticketing systems to allow customers to maintain a safe distance while ensuring they are served in order.

Please respect the personal space of others and practice good hygiene by washing hands often with soap for at least 20 seconds.

Stay safe and thank you for continuing to support small business
