Attention foodies and culture enthusiasts! We’ve got exciting news – we’re bringing the stunning island of Mauritius to the Dandenong Market! Join us as we celebrate Mauritius Independence Day on Sunday 12 March 2023 from 11am until 2pm.

Experience the vibrant and eclectic Mauritian culture, a beautiful fusion of African, South Asian, and European influences. We’ve got a fantastic lineup of events that showcase the best of this island’s traditions. Get ready to learn some moves with a Sega dancing workshop and enjoy LIVE music all day from 11am.

But what’s a celebration without some delicious food, right? We’ve got you covered with the mouth-watering and authentic delicacies from La Caze Mama, formerly known as Delicious Mauritius. Try out the gamey Venison Salmi, a tropical creole dish cooked with deer meat in wine. Or maybe the Chicken Biryani, a popular dish in the island of Manutius with its roots in Hyderabad, India. And don’t forget the Fish curry with eggplant – this Spanish Mackerel cooked in curry with eggplant will transport your taste buds straight to the sunny beaches of Mauritius!

But that’s not all! We’ve got plenty more authentic and popular dishes available on the day, plus a fully-stocked pantry of Mauritian favourites to take home. From Gato Arouille to Pate passion and Samoussa potato, these bite-sized flavours of paradise are perfect for a quick snack.

And don’t forget to dress the part! We’re going all out with a typical Mauritian dress code – “tropical loud”! So, grab your brightest and most colourful outfits and be in the running for some spot prizes for the loudest and proudest on the day. And of course, everyone is welcome to join in on the fun, no matter where you’re from!

We’re all about sharing culture and keeping traditions alive here at Dandenong Market, and we’re thrilled to be hosting Mauritius Independence Day for the second year in a row. “This event brings together so many cultures, we can’t wait to celebrate with those familiar and new,” says Mr. Ian Sumpter, Dandenong Market General Manager.

Remember, this event is FREE to attend and is perfect for the whole family. So, mark your calendars for Sunday 12 March 2023 and we’ll see you there!
