Voted ‘Dandenong Market’s favourite hair and beauty trader’ in the Melbourne Market Awards 2015, Mita Abedy started her hairdressing career back in her native country Iran where she followed in her family’s career footsteps with both her mum and brother also hairdressers. Her mother owned a salon in Iran and prior to coming to Australia 5 years ago, Mita spent 17 years in the hairdressing business.
When Mita and her husband (a mechanical engineer) decided to move to Australia with their children for work, Mita knew she needed to be qualified in a product that was specialised in Australia to get work. After doing extensive research Mita discovered Kuene Haircosmetics a large Dutch-owned multinational specialist in quality hair care. Mita spent 2 years in Iran studying a Kuene Advance Colourist Diploma, and when she came to Australia she was able to use her diploma from Keune to obtain work. Mita volunteered at a hair salon in Chadstone that specialised in Kuene products, and also obtained a Certificate 3 in Hairdressing to enhance her Australian qualifications.
Prior to coming to Dandenong Market, Mita worked in various salons in Glen Waverley, Oakleigh and the city. It was a friend that suggested Mita run her own hairdressing business and Dandenong Market provided a good opportunity. Mita and her husband bought and renovated a caravan to use as their shop and have since built up a Smile Cut is a highly successful business at Dandenong Market and it is all due to Mita’s professionalism and pride in her business and the high regard and attention to detail she has for her customers. Her customer base is not only local shoppers at the market, but extends to customers who come from as far away as Phillip Island and Gippsland, also stallholders, security guards and even Market Management.
