We’re bringing a little taste of France to Dandenong Market!
This Bastille weekend swap your beanie for a beret, in a 2-day celebration of French food and FREE live entertainment.
From 10am until 2pm Saturday & Sunday, be entertained with a colourful feast of French-Celtic live music by Bric A Brac. You’ll be captivated by the fiery strumming of the Spanish guitar, mandolin, fiddle, and vocal harmonies that take you on a guided tour of Europe.
And, for two days only, our French-inspired winter celebration, will take you on a tour of magnifique delights hidden in all corners of the Market.
It wouldn’t be Bastille Day without plenty of cheese. There is no better stop than Nesh’s Corner Deli, where our most popular cheesemonger Baris will delight your senses with a tasting journey of the finest French cheeses. Then be mesmerised as the team at Nesh’s Corner Deli delight your senses with a raclette grill. Is there anything better than dripping, melted cheese? Raclette is best eaten with perfectly cured meats, crusty bread and cornichons, which is how they will be served up.
Alongside cheese, France is a renowned champion of authentic pastries. No trip to the Market on Bastille Day would be complete without tasting delicious pastries, with their golden-brown flakiness and distinct layers of rich flavours and textures.
Visit Melina’s Bakery & Larder for a crowd-pleasing selection of macaroons, croissants, danishes and baguettes.
The team at Baker Boys has a cult following for their take on a un mille-feuilles – or as it’s more commonly known in Australia, a French vanilla slice. It’s filled with a perfect pastry cream and icing sugar on top, which is why it’s a sell-out every Market Day. Baker Boys will also have a French pack available for Bastille Day only. It will be filled with their French delicacies like escargot, chocolate croissants and danishes.
Then, stop by Why Not? Wooden Bakery for one (or 10!) of their melt-in-your-mouth petit fours. These delicate butter cookies have been handmade with the finest French butter, to ensure they melt with every bite. Each petit four has been perfectly sandwiched with a variety of jams – or simply chocolate-dipped and finished with sprinkles and crushed nuts. Trust us, you won’t stop at one.
For Bastille Day only, La Caze Mama, formerly the popular Delicious Mauritius, will be serving up two French specialities in a beautiful fusion of French flavours: Coq au Vin or Beef Bourguignon. These rich, but classic, French favourites will be served with a silky Mauritian-style mashed potato and a crusty French baguette.
And, when you grab a coffee from Perfect Coffee (after all, it is Bastille Day) make sure you sample one of their deliciously decadent and highly-sought after almond croissants.
Pop Up Stalls
To celebrate Bastille Day, Carnival Crepes will be popping up at the Market and can be found in Market Square. Best known for their innovative flavour profiles with exciting combinations, these crepes are not to be missed. We suggest you arrive early to beat the queue.
