Sultan’s Hand Craft

Known for designer handmade décor, shawls and jewellery from around the world, Sultan Ahmad of Sultan Hand Craft has been a part of the Dandenong Market family since 2003.

Sultan started his career selling handmade carpets and antiques in Afghanistan where he was born within a family business started by this father. 

After fleeing Afghanistan in 1994 Sultan headed to India to find work. Then in 1998, Sultan moved to the United States where he lived and worked in a New York grocery store. In late 1998, Sultan’s wife Adila and their five kids were able to leave Afghanistan to move to Australia, leaving Sultan. Three years later, Sultan was able to reunite with his beautiful family.

Sultan started his stall “Sultan’s Hand Crafts” at Dandenong Market in 2003 to extend his father’s business here in Australia.

Sultan offers designer handmade tablecloths, runners and cushion covers, silk, Kashmir and woollen shawls, beautiful and exotic necklaces, earrings and bracelets and a range of beautiful handcrafted statues from Indonesia.

Despite the space between them, Sultan still works with his family. In fact, he continues to import some of his stock from India where his brother lives and works. Sultan sources most products within Australia and even stocks some beautiful handcrafted products from Indonesia.

Enjoying the passion, trade and culture of Dandenong Market, Sultan is proud to be following in his father’s footsteps selling beautiful and exotic handcrafts to his customers. He enjoys interacting with customers and many loyal customers who travel to the market regularly who appreciate his quality goods.

Sultan’s gifts are unique to the market with not many other stalls selling anything similar in authenticity and quality.
