Meet Sultan Handcraft
Known for designer hand made décor, shawls and jewellery from around the world, Sultan Ahmad of Sultan Hand Craft shares his rich history and background of how he came to trade at Dandenong market 13 years ago.
Sultan started his career selling handmade carpets and antiques in Afghanistan where he was born. It was a family business started by this father.
After fleeing Afghanistan in 1994 Sultan headed to India to find work, after four years Sultan moved to USA, where he lived and worked in a New York grocery store. In 1998 Ahmad’s wife Adila and their 5 kids were able to leave Afghanistan move to Australia, Sultan was able to join them from the USA in 2001.
Sultan started his stall “Sultan’s Hand Crafts” at Dandenong Market in 2002, where he wanted to continue the family business here in Australia
Sultan offers designer handmade tablecloths, runners and cushion covers, silk, Kashmir and woollen shawls , beautiful and exotic necklaces, earrings and bracelets and a range of beautiful handcrafted statues from Indonesia.
Sultan still works with his family importing most of his stock from India where his brother lives and works. Sultan sources his other products wholesale, which includes beautiful hand crafted products from Indonesia.
Enjoying the passion, trade and culture of Dandenong Market, Sultan is proud to be following in his father’s footsteps selling beautiful and exotic handcrafts to his customers. He enjoys his interaction with customers and many loyal customers who travel to the market regularly who appreciate his quality goods.
Sultan’s gifts are unique to the market with not many other stalls selling anything similar in authenticity and quality.
