NZ new owners Rihanne and Nuns are excited to continue the legacy of previous owners, Jae and Haunui Te Arihi.
The girls, both Maori wahine (New Zealand women), want to share the traditional kai (food) that they grew up with as kids. They also love being able to share a taste of aotearoa (home) with the Australian-Kiwi community.
NZ Street Food specialises in Kiwi-inspired cuisines such as traditional hangi, fried bread and fish and chips. The team also stock sought-after New Zealand groceries such as L&P and Poppa Jacks!
This duo’s favourite meal has to be their mouth-watering hangi which is cooked above-ground in a specially made oven. Despite not being cooked in the traditional underground cooking style, the girls say it’s just as delicious.
As for their customers, Rhianne said that it’s dependant on the weather. During winter, people can’t get enough of the classic boil up or hangi and in the summer months, customers are begging for fried bread plates and seafood!
The team serve up delicious fare made using Market ingredients every Market day. They also create special traditional dishes during the Market’s Kiwi events, Matariki and
Waitangi Day.
Visit Nuns and Rhianne and the whanau (family) at NZ Street Food in the Meat, Fish and Deli Hall to try some of their traditional dishes.
