Celebrate Plastic Free July with a free, hands-on environmental science activity for kids at Dandenong Market! Our Plastic Detective Workshop, run in partnership with Federation University, is designed to get children excited about sustainability, science, and protecting our planet — all while having fun.
Held on Tuesday 7 July, from 10am to 2pm, this free drop-in session takes place during Plastic Free July, a global movement encouraging communities to reduce single-use plastic and build sustainable habits. Kids will step into the shoes of a real scientist, searching for tiny plastic samples, then examining their findings using a microscope. Along the way, they’ll discover what type of plastic they’ve found and where it might have come from, turning everyday rubbish into a fascinating science discovery.
Perfect for budding scientists, nature lovers, and curious kids, aged 5 and up. Younger children under 5 are also welcome, as long as they’re accompanied by a helper or guardian.
There’s also free face painting on the day, making this a fun, free family outing.
No bookings required — simply drop in any time between 10am and 2pm. It’s a wonderful opportunity for kids to learn about plastic pollution, recycling, and sustainable living through play-based, interactive learning.
