Meet Michael Margheriti, owner of Margheriti Fresh at Dandenong Market.
Originally from Itay, Michael took over the business from his father who had been providing fresh Australian fruits and vegetables to the Market community since 1974.
Michael spent most of his childhood in and around the Market, working with his family. After briefly living outerstate, Michael eventually returned to Dandenong to take the reins of his family business in 2017.
Not much is different these days. Michaels father is still very much involved in Margheriti Fresh and the pair can often be seen chatting with customers, restocking produce or spruiking in-season stock.
Michael stocks 95% locally sourced, Australian fruits and vegetables which he stocks fresh every Market day.
In summer, Michael loves the taste of a juicy mango but says his customers don’t have favourites when it comes to his products.
“Favourites don’t matter as long as it’s fresh and the price is right,” he said.
Inspired to work every Market day because of his family, Michael says that meeting different people from all aspects of life keeps him passionate about his small business. And working at Dandenong Market exposes him to a melting pot of cultures.
Shop summer flavours such as berries, watermelon and celery or winter items like mandarins, bananas and mushrooms when you visit Michael and his family.
Stop by Margheriti Fresh at stall T5 in the Fruit and Vegetable Hall any Market day.
