Where Summer never ends!

We’re bringing the paradise island of Mauritius to Dandenong Market!

Join us to celebrate Mauritius Independence Day on Saturday 12 March 2022 from 10am until 3pm.

Mauritian culture is a fascinating blend of African, South Asian and European influences. The event will showcase Mauritian traditions, including Sega music and dance from 10am.

Authentic delicacies will be served by La Caze Mama, formerly the popular Delicious Mauritius. For one day only, Sept Cari, a spectacular dish of seven different curries prepared by traditional Mauritian chefs.

Seychelles Creole Octopus Curry will also be added to the menu for this special day – medium heat, light and fragrant made with coconut milk, freshly ground spices and herbs served with yellow rice and two freshly made roti. Octopus will be imported from Rodrigues (considered one of the best octopus in the Indian Ocean). And you cannot buy Seychelles cuisine anywhere else in Australia!

Gateaux Napolitaine will please everyone looking for a sweet taste of home. If you’re hungry for more, there are plenty more authentic popular dishes served on the day but there is also a fully stocked pantry of Mauritian favourites to take home!

There will be some fun water activities for the kids too.

The dress code is typically Mauritian – “tropical loud” – and we will have spot prizes for the loudest and proudest on the day! Of course, you don’t have to be Mauritian to join in the fun!

Dandenong Market is well known and respected for sharing culture and keeping traditions alive.

“We hope that this inaugural event will become a regular fixture on our annual festivals calendar,” Ms Jennifer Hibbs, Dandenong Market General Manager said.

The day marks the anniversary of Mauritius’ independence from French colonial rule in 1968 and the formation of a republic in 1992.

This event is FREE to attend and is family friendly-fun for all ages.
