For 25 years, Louise Noy of Louise’s Pet Supplies has been a familiar face and a cherished part of the Dandenong Market community.

“The atmosphere is what I love most,” Louise says. “It’s a real market.” 

As the Market looks ahead to the proposed Bazaar Revitalisation, Louise believes the time is right for these changes. “It’s needed,” she explains. “We need to modernise and attract younger groups. The younger generation expect something different, and they’re the future, we need to cater to them.”

For 50 years, Sam Vavasis has been a cornerstone of Dandenong Market. From selling five spice products in the early days to now running three thriving businesses; Peanut Market, Perfect Coffee and Sam’s Spice & Grocer. Sam has watched the Market evolve alongside the community it serves.

“I love the variety of stalls and how you get to talk to different small businesses and gain insight into their product.”

His daughter, Constance, practically grew up among the aisles. “I remember running around this place as a child,” she recalls.

Looking ahead, Sam welcomes the proposed Bazaar Revitalisation. “It will be good for the Market and traders,”

For nearly a decade, Mahdi Vahedi of Venus Jewellery has been part of the Dandenong Market family, a place he describes as a popular, multicultural market with a friendly atmosphere.

As the Market looks to the future with the Bazaar Revitalisation, Mahdi is optimistic.

“It will be a good change, we need it,” he says.

“Better organisation, a nicer and upgraded design, better flooring. It will make it more attractive for people to come.”
