Free electric vehicle charging

A Chargepoint Electric Vehicle Charger is now available at Dandenong Market

Council has recently installed a Chargepoint  Electric Vehicle Charger in the multi level carpark at the Dandenong Market.

What is ChargePoint?

ChargePoint operates the world’s largest network of electric vehicle (EV) charging stations. Couincil has partnered with ChargePoint to provide the tools and services to connect EV drivers with charging stations. Simply signup for a free driver account and start charging at various locations where drivers work, shop, eat, and play.

What’s the advantage of joining ChargePoint?

ChargePoint is the global leader in EV charging services and operates the largest public network in Australia. They have over 280 stations nationally. This means when you join ChargePoint, you immediately gain access to a readymade network of EV charging stations.

How do I access the ChargePoint facility?

Upon opening an account online or from your mobile app (iPhone & Android), you will receive a Welcome Pack containing two ChargePoint RFID cards. Simply follow the instructions to become a registered driver and start using ChargePoint – don’t forget to register your cards.

Customers can download the ChargePoint Mobile App. It’s free, and it takes less than two minutes. With the ChargePoint app, EV drivers can find charging stations, obtain real-time status on the availability and track energy consumption while charging.

EV drivers are not charged a fee for using the Chargepoint facility at the Dandenong Market, however you must log into the system, using the supplied RFID card, before accessing the service.

You must also purchase a ticket to park in the Market carpark. Ticket machines are clearly identified on each level. Parking fees are very low at 50c for one hour or $1.00 for three hours. Please also remember that there is a 3 hour time  limit in this carpark.

Where is the Chargepoint device?

The charger is located on the ground level of the carpark which is accessed from Clow Street. Simply drive into the car park and you will find the two bays set aside for EV drivers on your right approximately 40 metres from the entrance.

If you enter the multi level carpark from the King St entrance, drive down the ramp, turn left and the EV spaces will be on your left.

Charge for the first time.

Accessing ChargePoint stations is easy. Simply tap the ChargePoint card over the reader symbol, remove the charging connector and plug in. When the car has finished charging, tap the card to end the session, then unplug the connector and return it to the station. Don’t forget to also download the ChargePoint mobile app to start charging remotely.
